46% of US Internet Users Prefer Social Media as a Source of News in 2016 | Reuters Institute

The important change in digital media is the growth of news accessed via social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat & Instagram, News has become an important part of the Facebook mix over the last year, Not just accessing to news via social media, the sample shows indicators coming to depend on it for direct consumption.

In the US, 46% of the sample are using social media as a source of news has risen to – the percentage doubled since 2013 -, UK (35%) & Germany (31%) have moved less far in this direction. High adoption in countries like Greece, Brazil, and Turkey means that users across all 26 countries average 51%.
