Instagram is Working Secretly on Launching IG Shopping App

Over time, most of social media platforms around the world began to focus on providing e-commerce, Retail, and conversions services for different types of businesses and merchants globally. The Facebook company – including Instagram – is considered to be one of those companies and platforms which is providing, developing, and updating Apps, Tools, products, and Services accordingly. Hence, Instagram is working on launching a new standalone app that focuses on the online shopping.

As reported by The Verge, the Instagram new standalone App will be called “IG Shopping”, which enables Instagrammers to browse collections of products from merchants that they follow and purchase them directly within the app, without affecting the current Instagram user-experience in a significant way.

The Verge also points out that the Instagram new standalone App “IG Shopping” is still under testing and its development is still ongoing. In addition, the app’s release is still in doubt, but Instagram sees it as a good chance to make major expansion into e-commerce, according to two people familiar with the matter.

In the same context, this step isn’t considered to be Instagram’s only approach in providing the online shopping within its platform. In November in 2016, Instagram efforts started by experimenting with a shopping feature. Then in March, last year, they released it more broadly to enable Companies to tag posts with individual products and allowing users to shop directly from photos.

In addition, Instagram is working on a tool or option that enables users to shop from Instagram stories. It also should be mentioned that this isn’t Instagram’s first attempt to create features, tools, and services to be spun out into a standalone app. In June, Instagram announced during its event in San Francisco that they are launching IGTV, a new app for watching long-form and vertical videos that are up to an hour long from your favorite Instagram creators.

Finally, we can say that if Instagram succeeded in launching the new standalone App “IG Shopping”, it will be a great move for the Facebook company, as more than 25 million businesses already have Instagram accounts, and 2 million of them are advertisers. In addition, four in five Instagrammers follow at least one business, as said by Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg on the company’s most recent earnings call.
