Social Media Manager

PEN America is looking for a Social Media Manager in New York City, United States. If you meet the requirements below, you will be eligible to apply via Digital Marketing Community.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Improve and execute a year-round social media strategy that advances our advocacy, free expression, and literary programming, and integrates key calendar milestones.
  • Direct paid, multiplatform ad campaigns and spending; recommend targeting and best practices.
  • Devise creative text and visuals and implement and monitor analytics.
  • Provide compelling, shareable, on-mission content including (video, graphic, and photo content) for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Lead content pipeline flowing in from PEN America staff, edit, schedule, and post content across all platforms.
  • Promote comprehensive campaigns for major events, report rollouts, announcements, and general advocacy, including the Literary Awards, World Voices Festival of international literature, and the Literary Gala.
  • Supervise, report, and assess analytics weekly.
  • Build online partnerships and engagement strategies with social influencers to reach new, untapped networks.
  • Manage digital marketing strategy to optimize reach and engagement and to increase traffic to PEN.org.
  • Advance micro-strategies to advance social engagement specific to the needs of PEN America’s founders, contribute to the grant application and evaluation process by recommending strategies for funded initiatives.
  • Head SEO to increase engagement on PEN.org.
  • Assure live social media presence at PEN America events as needed.
  • Control production of seasonal multimedia assets.
  • Manage production, editing, and publishing of videos and photos from the annual Literary Gala in consultation with staff and external videographers and editors.
  • Superintend scheduling, production, publishing, distribution and archiving of World Voices Festival audio, photo and video.
  • Aid with additional video projects as needed.
  • Assistance identification and management of consultants and interns.
  • Associate in weekly editorial meetings with free expression, literary programs, and membership and national Outreach departments.
  • Produce support for administrative and web content needs as necessary.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of progressively more responsible professional experience in developing and executing social media campaigns in accordance with an organization-wide editorial calendar.
  • Familiarity with complex, politically sensitive, and culturally nuanced debates in political and literary spheres.
  • Strong storytelling capabilities in transforming information into visual (video, photo, and graphics) and interactive content.
  • Solid copywriting skills and demonstrated the ability to draft pithy, on-message content and headlines tailored for peak cross-platform performance.
  • Proven editing and copyediting skills.
  • Effective experience in social media analytics.
  • Exceptional performance and speed in carrying out the breadth of professional responsibilities.
  • Excellent team player also able to work independently to manage multiple simultaneous projects through to completion.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to delve into new territory and develop responsive, successful strategies.
