78% of Smartphone Users Are Using Gaming Apps at Least Once a Day, 2017 | Ipsos MORI & Google

Mobile applications, or apps, are an increasingly important part of omni-channel retailing. While the adoption and usage of apps for marketing purposes has grown exponentially over the past few years. While mobile web browsing is incredibly popular, apps play an important role in consumers’ mobile experience too. Brands may assume that app users are a narrow slice of the population, offering limited opportunities to reach an audience.

Take a glance at the frequency of app categories usage among users:

  • 78% of surveyed smartphone users reported that they are using gaming apps at least once a day, while 96% said that they use games apps at least once a week.
  • 59% reported that they are using sports apps at least once a day, while 89% indicated that they use it once a week.
  • 65% of smartphone users mentioned that they are using entertainment apps at least once a day, compared to 94% who said that they are using it at least once a week.
