Telecommunication Market Indicators in Bahrain, Jan 2017 | TRA in Bahrain
By the end of Q3 2016, there were several changes in some aspects of the telecommunication sector in Bahrain. Fixed lines declined by -1% in Q3 2015 to reach 244,000 in Q3 2016, while mobile subscribers increased by 12% to hit 2.8 million subscribers in the same period.

Mobile penetration in Bahrain increased from 180% in Q3 2015 to reach 200% at the end of Q3 2016.
Active mobile broadband subscriptions represent 64% of total mobile subscriptions at the end of Q3 2016 with an increasing rate 7% than Q3 2015.
Broadband subscriptions jumped from 1.94 million at the end of Q3 2015 to reach about 2.3 million subscriptions in Q3 2016.
Established in 2002, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is a Bahrain governmental institution of the Kingdom of Bahrain was established by Legislative Decree No. 48 of 2002 promulgating the Telecommunications Law.Since founding, TRA has focused on liberalizing and developing the telecoms sector by promoting an effective and fair competition between established operators and new entrants while protecting the interest of consumers. TRA main goal is to develop a roadmap of measures to promote Bahrain as a regional business and ICT hub, under the NTP4 umbrella.
