The total population in the Americas overcame the threshold of 1 billion accounting a total of 1,006 million during January 2017. Internet users increased by 53 million and a rate of 8% year-on-year. Active social media users also increased by 88 million to reach 599 million with 60% penetration rate. It worth to be mentioned that the US alone contributed 22 million (25%) of the 88 million new social media users across the region in the past year. The same happened also in the number of active mobile social users which increased also by a rate of 22%.
In contrast, mobile subscriptions in the Americas slipped down by a rate of 3% and 3 million since January 2016 most likely because people have been consolidating multiple subscriptions.
