Nowadays online shoppers purchase more from international retailers, shop more on smartphones and it’s not surprising that online shoppers’ satisfaction has risen faster for smartphones compared to other devices. These behavioral shifts are driven by rapidly changing the consumers’ preferences, disruptive technologies and impacted by the desire for better prices, unique products, and increased convenience.

Check the below insights from the 6th annual UPS pulse of the online shopper study, to understand consumer expectations, shopping behaviors from pre-purchase to post-delivery and channel preferences:

  • Usage of smartphones has seen a steady increase to reach 8 in 10 online shoppers this year.
  • More than 9 out of 10 shoppers still use computers to purchase online.
  • Although the greatest gains in online shopping are expected to come from smartphones (24%), the desktop growth still at the top by a rate of 30%.
  • 31% of the online purchases are occurred by Millennials who are more likely to have purchased on a PC and Smartphone while older shoppers tend to be PC only.
  • Shoppers are showing a greater preference for single-channel shopping (62%) versus multi-channel shopping (38%) in 2016.
  • Product research using a smartphone was up 3 points, with 76% of millennials researching on their smartphone.

Methodology:

Data were driven from 5,189 respondents. The online survey was conducted between 10 January and 28 February 2017, with considering the gender, age balancing, and shopping frequency.
